BEDOK CAR RENTAL : FAQ
1. What are the requirements to rent a car? What documents to bring?
i) You must be at least 23 years of age and have a minimum of 1 year driving experience as indicated on your driving licence.
ii) You must produce the original driving licence and NRIC. For foreigners, you also need to produce your passport and work pass (if any).
iii) You must provide a recent proof of income e.g. CPF contribution history print-out, pay slip or IRAS income tax slip. This is to prove that you have the means and ability to make compensation should any incident arise during the period of hire. Alternatively, you may opt to place a refundable deposit as guarantee, which may range from $1,000 to $4,500, decided on case by case basis.
iv) You shall also place a refundable deposit of $300 in cash or credit card. This amount can be reduced if you provide a recent copy of your mobile phone bill (matching your residential address) or/and provide your credit card details as guarantee.
Example:
No mobile phone bill and no credit card guarantee : $300 refundable deposit required
Mobile phone bill only: $200 refundable deposit required
Credit card guarantee only: $200 refundable deposit required
Mobile phone bill + Credit card guarantee: $100 deposit required
This deposit will be fully refunded to you upon return of the vehicle at original condition with no unpaid fines or other dues.
2. Why are you different from other car rental companies? The other companies didn't have so many requirements!
As an LTA-registered car rental company with proper car leasing insurance coverage, we are bound by requirements and restrictions imposed on us by the insurance company.
There are many errant "car rental companies" out there who are renting someone else's private car to you, whose insurance policies do not cover you or third parties in an event of an accident. This means that you risk getting sued should you get into an accident, and you risk going bankrupt if there are injuries/medical claims.
Why take the risk? You want a peace of mind, don't you?
3. How can I tell whether a car has valid insurance policy that covers rental (hire and reward)?
The simplest way is to look at the road tax disc of the vehicle. A vehicle registered with LTA for hire purposes with valid rental insurance coverage will bear the word "MOTORCAR" below the date of expiry, instead of "PASSENGER(PRIVATE)" or "PASSENGER(CO)". You can dial 1800-CALL-LTA to verify.
Do not risk driving a car without insurance cover!
4. Does the price include petrol? Is the price nett? Any GST?
All prices are nett. We do not charge GST and you have to pay for the petrol you consume during the hire.
5. What is my liability in case of an accident?
For minor accidents where the damage is lower than the Excess liability, hirer shall make compensation for the loss and damage. If the damage or loss exceeds the excess liability, the hirer's liability is capped at the Excess amount.
The hirer must report an accident to us as soon as it has occurred, failing which we or the insurer reserve the rights to reject your claim, and you shall pay the Excess on top of third party claims regardless of the severity of the accident.
6. What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
The hirer must report all vehicle breakdowns immediately. A replacement vehicle will be provided subject to availability. In the event that no replacement vehicle is available, a pro rated refund will be given to the hirer. Please note that punctured tires, empty petrol tank, flat battery, loss of car key or key locked inside of vehicle does NOT constitute a breakdown, and if assistance is required in such situations charges may apply.
For vehicles driven outside of the geographical border of the Republic of Singapore, the hirer is responsible for moving the vehicle back to Singapore for any repair or replacement to be carried out.
7. What if I wish to extend the rental period? What if I am unable to return the car on time?
The hirer will have to inform us of such intention as soon as possible, subject to approval. It is the hirer's responsibility to inform us should he/she is not able to return the car on time. Late return penalty is $30/hour, and $500 vehicle recovery fee is chargeable for each day you go missing.
8. How to calculate petrol use? Do I need to refill the petrol tank?
The hirer should refill the petrol tank to the same level as when he/she collected the vehicle. If the tank is not refuel to the same level, the estimated cost of the deficit plus a service charge of $10 will be payable.
9. Can I drive the vehicle to Malaysia?
Yes, but you must inform us beforehand so that we can apply exit permit for the car to leave Singapore customs. Bringing the vehicle out of Singapore without approval leads to a penalty of $500 and repudiation of insurance coverage.
10. When do I pay? What are the forms of payment for the rental?
We accept payment in the form of Cash / iBanking / VISA / MASTERCARD. Bookings are secured by making a partial payment, which is non-refundable if you cancel your booking later on. The balance is payable in cash during car collection.
